February 14, 2026, stands as a truly memorable date in the history of the Discalced Carmelite Friars of St. Therese of the Child Jesus, Vicariate of Tanzania. On this blessed day, five devoted Carmelite Friars—Deacons Gasper Makwangu, Ludovick Masanja, Adrianus Mushumbus, Yohaness Mbaga, and John Petro—were raised to the clerical state through their ordination to the Diaconate. This significant milestone was celebrated with immense joy, not only by the newly ordained deacons themselves, but also by the entire Carmelite community, their families, friends, and the faithful gathered at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Kihonda Parish.
The Eucharistic celebration was a solemn and uplifting occasion, presided over by the Most Reverend Lazarus Vitalis Msimbe SDS, Bishop of the Diocese of Morogoro. The ceremony was further enriched by the presence of Carmelite Friars and priests from across the deanery, who concelebrated the Holy Mass in unity and fraternity.
During his homily, Bishop Msimbe offered heartfelt exhortations to the newly ordained deacons. He encouraged them to dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to the service of the Word of God and to approach the sacred mysteries with profound reverence, recognizing the great responsibility and honor that comes with their new role. His words served as both a reminder and a blessing, inspiring the deacons to embrace their ministry with humility, commitment, and devotion.
The Vicariate of Tanzania extends its warmest congratulations to Deacons Gasper Makwangu, Ludovick Masanja, Adrianus Mushumbus, Yohaness Mbaga, and John Petro. We pray that the Lord will continue to guide and strengthen them as they begin their ministry as ministers of the Word, serving the people of God and the Church with love and dedication.
